"Lunar Phenomena" by Karl Strand
Lunar Phenomena
Location: Charlotte Pass, Kosciuszko National Park, Australia.
Story: Seamans Hut, Kosciuszko. I just arrived home from after 4 days and nights traversing about
80-90 kms of hiking in alpine conditions to capture the sweet landscape of the Snowy Mountains
nestled in the NSW Ranges. We were incredibly lucky to experience the Lunar Phenomena. A
Moonbow or Halo which ever you prefer while shooting this seaman’s hut. The Halo is said to be the
warning of bad weather to come, the tale continues with, the number of days till that moment can
be predicted by the amount of stars inside of the halo. This occurs when the light from the moon is
refracted by ice crystals in the higher atmosphere causing the halo effect you see around the moon.
