About Candyss:

“I keep returning to abstraction. Desert quietude Outback expansiveness Incandescent waves against the coast line. Nature holds me in its rhythmic silence and takes me to a place I yearn to return to. The land talks to me and stays with me and through osmosis I translate this onto canvas. My work is about colour texture and light. The light reflected on the sea or going out to the luminous desert. I have used irridescent pigments for over a decade now and love the endless possibility of colours these create. I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy the art making process.”

Candyss is a Sydney based artist with a deep affinity for the land and ocean. She lives and works near Manly in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Candyss has always been a keen bushwalker and walks either on the beach, around coastal rockpools, through bushland, and national parks; finding calm and creative inspiration in wide open places. Candyss paints with a multi layering process of thin translucent washes, then thick palette knife work, and uses irridescent pigments to refract light throughout the painting - as the viewer moves around the room the light is reflected back in different areas of the painting. The painting process is loose, intuitive and a response to memory, feeling and emotion. Her contemporary coastal works are fresh, inspiring and bold. Candyss travels extensively to experience the landscape and to sketch in remote areas throughout Australia & overseas. Recently she returned from travels in West MacDonnell ranges and Lake Mungo Nat. Park. Candyss studied graphic design at Sydney College of the Arts and went on with further studies in Jazz Popular Music in Melbourne in 1990’s and studied Fine Art in Australia and overseas in Singapore at Lasalle College (RMIT) during her eight years living in Asia. She has also studied printmaking and painting at TAFE in Brookvale and ceramics at TAFE Northern Beaches Campus. Candyss has exhibited throughout the past 30 years in many solo exhibitions in Australia and internationally. Her works are held in private and corporate collections throughout Australia and overseas. CANDYSS CROSBY
